Mission
The central purpose of Charles County Youth Orchestra and Encore Strings is to provide the opportunity for young instrumental students to participate in a community orchestra.  Our goal is to provide a quality learning and performance experience to these musicians and to encourage them to participate in future community orchestras in their adult lives.  We additionally provide enrichment to the musical life of the community in Charles County and Southern Maryland.

Membership
Students are accepted in CCYO through an audition, or by recommendation from a private teacher.  Members who attend public school must be participating in their school orchestra or band.  We are not here to compete with the schools and this requirement is just one of the many ways we should be supporting the public school programs.  Exceptions may be made in the case of schedule conflicts with required courses and when students have been members in good standing in the past.
